Client: Hillsborough County Public Schools
Size of Project: 35,000 sq ft
Allstate added 14 new classrooms in two separate 2-story structures to this occupied high school campus. The project’s 9-month construction schedule included an aggressive five week summer phase during which the existing cafeteria and administration buildings were expanded to accommodate the additional student load of this and previous classroom addition projects to the campus. The cafeteria expansion not only adds square footage and mechanical equipment for heating and cooling, but also a new covered outside dining area for student use. The administration building expansion created much needed office and conference room space for administrators and student affairs staff. An additional chiller, new chilled water pumps and underground piping were added to meet the new heating and cooling loads of the expanded campus. Student and faculty parking are each receiving increased capacity from two new parking lots and the expansion of existing lots. New construction occurred adjacent to existing, occupied classroom buildings and during the regularly scheduled school year. Special measures were taken to incorporate the chilled water/HVAC work during the school occupancy without interruption of the HVAC system. All system capacities, controls, functions and schedules were maintained during the major system replacements without a missed day of heating and cooling.
