Jinks Middle School Gymnasium
Panama City, Florida
Client: Bay District Schools
Size of Project: 21,000 sq ft
Hurricane Michael destroyed the gymnasium at Jinks Middle School as it moved through North Florida’s panhandle in October 2018. Allstate was awarded the construction management services contract to demolish what was left of the old gymnasium, clean-up the site and build a completely new gymnasium in its place. The new facility is a structural masonry and concrete building with 12” CMU walls and structural steel joists. The exterior includes both metal wall panels and brick veneer with a PVC membrane roofing system. The new Jinks Middle School gym includes basketball court with telescoping bleacher systems, boys and girls locker rooms for both home and visitor, coaching staff offices, concession and lobby with restrooms for the visiting public and weight room that faces Florida Avenue built with a curtain wall system that allows the room to be visible from the outside. In addition to the gymnasium reconstruction, Allstate also replaced a freezer/cooler in the cafeteria, constructed new sun shades, a new parking lot, and a new covered walkway that connected from the gymnasium to the existing bus loop.
