Experiential Learning Center at Wormsloe Historical Site
Savannah, GA
Client: The University of Georgia
Size of Project: 3,185 sq ft
The Center for Research and Education at Wormsloe (CREW) campus has added a new Experiential Learning Center to enhance learning opportunities in the coastal region and foster collaborative partnerships across campus. The new facility is a 3,185 square foot, single-story wood frame building that includes flexible classrooms for educational programs, administrative staff offices, prep/storage space, a breakroom, and restrooms and showers. The center also features a deep porch and is located next to a planned event lawn, providing informal spaces to accommodate larger education, social, and cultural events. This expansion reduces redundancies and costs associated with many field programs while increasing the focus on integrating research findings with education, outreach, and stewardship. The facility was also designed to allow students and faculty to break traditional boundaries and create new trans-disciplinary solutions to emerging challenges. In addition, the project included the installation of a new well and septic system.
