Bishop Hall (c. 1932), Carnegie Hall (c. 1925)
Fort Valley, Georgia
Client: Fort Valley State University
Size of Project: 2 Facilities
Bishop Hall was originally constructed in 1932. Phase One of the Bishop Hall project made repairs to the building’s underground piping, stabilizing the structure, repair/repointing of the exterior masonry, repair/replacement of roof, replacement of all windows, demolition of the building interior, demolition and reconstruction of the southern wing. There was a focus on the historical elements to resemble the original building character. Phase Two moved to the interior of the building, and included a build-out to include a multi-function banquet and conference center. The interior build out of the 1989 Addition will house the campus Radio and TV Departments production facilities and classrooms. Carnegie Hall (c. 1925) is the new home of the Fort Valley State University Honors Program. Allstate completely renovated the first and second floors totaling 6,047 sf and a new entrance pavilion. Renovations included painting, floor finishes, windows, doors, hardware, gypsum board and ceiling. Modifications included removal of the existing central stair replaced by two new egress stairs at each end of the structure. Additional renovations and modifications included new restroom facilities on each floor, new study room additions on the second floor, a grand entrance foyer/hall, HVAC, and plumbing and electrical. Floor joist, sills and girders damaged by weather and insects were repaired or replaced. Handicap accessibility was also addressed with new low slope ramps from each side of the structure.
